Description

Level II and Level III data support on the Bank of America Gateway

What's in this article?

Merchants that accept business-to-business transactions including corporate, purchase and government cards, can benefit from lower interchange rates by submitting Level II and Level III data during a transaction. Level II and Level III data enable customers to track the amount of tax they pay and to reconcile transactions with a unique customer code. Our Card Not Present (CNP) Integration Toolkit and Secure Acceptance (Hosted Payment Page and Checkout API) integration methods currently support Level II data. Level III data is not supported at this time.

There are two categories of Level II cards, which are also called Type II cards or Purchase card Type II:

  • Business/corporate cards
Given by businesses to employees for business-related expenses such as travel and entertainment or for corporate supplies and services.
  • Purchase/procurement cards
Used by businesses for expenses such as supplies and services. These cards are often used as replacements for purchase orders.

For detailed descriptions of each Level II field, see the Bank of America Gateway Integration Guide that also describes how to request sale and capture transactions.

Level II vs Level III data

The difference between Level II and Level III is the amount of data that is captured for payment processing. Level II data includes:

  • Standard Info: Payment card number and expiration, billing address, shipping address, and invoice number.
  • Customer Code: Unique reference ID for the order.
  • Tax: An amount must be submitted separately from the total transaction amount.

Level III data includes Level II data, plus the following:

  • Freight Amount: Total freight or shipping and handling charges for the order.
  • Duty Amount: Total charges for any import or export duties included in the order.
  • Line-Item Details: Details such as item ID, item description, quantity, unit of measure, price sold, tax, and alternate tax information.

NOTE:
Level III data is not supported at this time.
