Contactless Payments
Description
What's in this article?
Contactless payments use radio frequency identification (RFID) or near-field communication (NFC) within the card or mobile payment device to transmit the card data to the point of sale device. The customer holds the card or payment device near the RFID reader on the point of sale or PIN pad, the point of sale picks up the signal, communicates with the card or payment device, and processes the payment. If the contactless payment method fails, the customer will be prompted to insert the card. Contactless payments do not support EBT cards at this time.
Hold the card/payment device near the reader long enough to hear the confirmation beep. If your terminal has the sound disabled, look for the successful visual indicators.
IMPORTANT!
If the card moves away too fast, the contactless payment attempt may fail. An "Amount over contactless limit. Please Insert Card" message or "Card Read Failed" appears on the terminal. The customer will need to insert the card instead of using contactless payment.
Each payment terminal has an ideal place to read a contactless card or mobile payment device. Refer to the setup guide for your device for more information on how to accept a contactless payment.
