Description

How to run a transaction for a credit card with an international billing address

What's in this article?

You may encounter a customer with a credit card that has an international billing address. If you need to accept an international credit card as a card not present transaction, use the Virtual Terminal to process the transaction. When accepting a credit card in a card present environment, these credit cards may be accepted as a dip/swipe/tap on your terminal. For manually keyed entry, use Virtual Terminal.

NOTE
Bank of America supports domestic transactions. We do not currently support international transactions that take place outside of the geographical boundaries of the United States or United States territories. Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) or other foreign currency exchange is not supported.

You can process either card present or card not present international card transactions on Virtual Terminal.

To process an international payment on Virtual Terminal
  1. Log in to your Merchant Services account in Business Advantage 360 online banking.
  2. Run the transaction in Virtual Terminal, entering the billing country and address, including ZIP or postal code. For Canadian addresses, enter the Province or Territory as the State and the Postal Code in the ZIP code. Do not enter the space for the postal code, for example M5V 3L9 would be entered M5V3L9.

NOTE: ZIP or postal code is required for all countries; however, AVS can only be used to confirm addresses in the U.S. and Canada. If you submit an address outside of the U.S. and Canada, you will receive the response message "G" for "Global". In such cases, you should take further steps to verify the address. You will be liable for any chargebacks if you accept the transaction, even if the card issuer approves it.

  3. A successful transaction will be displayed in the transaction list.
