International Credit Card Transactions
Description
What's in this article?
You may encounter a customer with a credit card that has an international billing address. Bank of America supports card present transactions using international cards at merchant locations domiciled within the 50 US states and in US territories (E.g., Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands). These cards are accepted as a dip/swipe/tap on your terminal and the transaction will appear on the cardholder’s statement in US dollars. If the transaction must be manually keyed while the cardholder is present, Bank of America's Virtual Terminal can be used.
Clients using eCommerce Partner Solutions with Bank of America can accept card not present international credit cards online other than Canadian-issued cards.
Clients who accept card not present transactions can accept international credit cards by manually keying the transaction into the Virtual Terminal. The transaction will appear on the cardholder’s statement in US dollars. For card not present transactions originating outside of the 50 US states and US territories, your website must allow shipping to other countries.
NOTE:
Bank of America only supports domestic transactions. We do not currently support international transactions that take place outside of the geographical boundaries of the United States or United States territories. Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) or other foreign currency exchange is not supported.
To process an international payment on Virtual Terminal
- Log in to your Merchant Services account in Business Advantage 360 online banking.
- Run the transaction in Virtual Terminal, entering the billing country and address, including ZIP or postal code. For Canadian addresses, enter the Province or Territory as the State and the Postal Code in the ZIP code. Do not enter the space for the postal code, for example M5V 3L9 would be entered M5V3L9.
- A successful transaction will be displayed in the transaction list.
IMPORTANT!
ZIP or postal code is required for all countries; however, the Address Verification System (AVS) can only confirm addresses in the US and Canada. If you submit an address outside of the US and Canada, you will receive the response message "G" for "Global". In such cases, you should take further steps to verify the address. You will be liable for any chargebacks if you accept the transaction, even if the card issuer approves it.
